Here's Nancy's first stab at a cake from scratch. No more box cakes. The Krusteaz factory is over the mountains in Kent, and we thought about that as a possibility for baking mixes, but it's not Eastern Washington so it's out of the running. She got the recipe here from Family Fun magazine. Ingredients: Flour from Missoula, eggs from Reardan, skittles left over from halloween.
Ok wait. I've made a cake from scratch before, just not a BIRTHDAY cake. I always want the girls' birthday cakes to look extra special, and I never thought anything I make would qualify. So I always bought mine from those supermarket professional people. It was fun to make this ourselves, especially because of the extra excitement for the girls. They got to put on the skittles, and daddy frosted it and put on the bow. I just did the cake part!!! So the key for me in doing anything creative is to enlist help from the creative people around you.:-)
